British Airways Set to Restart Heathrow-San Diego Service

Three-times-weekly service is scheduled to commence Oct. 13

September 20, 2021

British Airways has announced the resumption of flights between London Heathrow and San Diego beginning October 13. The route, which was suspended in March 2020, will now operate three times weekly.

Flights will depart Heathrow on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, arriving into San Diego at 4:45 PM. The return flight departs for London 7:00 PM, arriving at 1:25 PM the following day.

British Airways will be the first carrier to resume nonstop service between a European destination and San Diego since the start of the pandemic, according to an announcement from San Diego International Airport.

Last month BA resumed flights between Heathrow and Phoenix Sky Harbor International, and the carrier recently added frequencies from New York JFK, Los Angeles, Chicago and Seattle to London.

The boost in capacity comes as the UK government moves to allow fully vaccinated travelers arriving from the EU and US to enter England without requiring a quarantine period.

“I’m proud to welcome British Airways back to San Diego and re-establish our direct connection with London,” commented San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria. “This exciting news comes after receiving approval from the Coastal Commission for the New Terminal 1 project and is critical to solidifying our global identity as an international destination and being able to welcome even more travelers from around the world.”,
